I really don’t care about my speakers; I have spares. I am concerned, however, that a surge could originate from the unprotected outlet to the speaker system, and pass through the audio cable and through the mini-jack to the computer.

I know that surges can pass through coax cables and telephone line (in addition to, of course, power cables.

Will connecting my speakers in the above manner endanger my computer and peripherals?

If at all possible, a link so I can do more research would be helpful.
